The 1st Military Police Brigade is a formation created under 3rd (UK) Division that has control over close support military police units within the British Army. The brigade will be dispersed throughout the British Army at sub-unit level, although it will remain under the operational command of the Chief of the General Staff in order to keep and preserve investigative independence.[1] It sits under the tactical command of 3rd UK Division.[2] It is commanded by the Provost Marshal (Army).[3]

History

The brigade was formed under the Army 2020 reorganisation and became operational on 1 December 2014.[4] It reached Full Operational Capability in July 2015.[5]

Structure

The brigade consists of the following units:

  • 1st Military Police Brigade in Andover
    • 1 Regiment Royal Military Police (1 RMP) in Catterick
    • 3 Regiment Royal Military Police (3 RMP) in Bulford
    • Special Investigation Branch Regiment (SIB Regt) in Bulford
    • Military Provost Staff Regiment (MPS Regt) in Colchester
    • Specialist Operations Regiment (SpecOps) at Southwick House
    • Special Operations Unit Royal Military Police in Longmoor (Army Reserve)
    • Military Corrective Training Centre in Colchester

4 Regiment Royal Military Police will disband and its subunits transferred to 3 Regiment Royal Military Police, which in turn ceded one of its companies to 1 Regiment Royal Military Police.[6][7]
