While most theorized that former Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer would face little competition during the party's nominating process, fitness model Andre Barnett won a surprise victory at the party's convention, thus making him the frontrunner for the Reform Party of the United States presidential nomination. Barnett was the only candidate who addressed the convention; Roemer, Whitley, and McCormick declined invitations to attend the event. Subsequently, Roemer placed second in the straw poll. Results
