The Conservatives held control of the council with a reduced majority of 5 seats. Despite a strong challenge from UKIP, the party only gained 2 seats (including one where the sitting Conservative councillor had previously defected to UKIP) whilst the Liberal Democrats lost one seat and Labour recouped some of their 2009 losses, gaining 6 seats.[1] All locally registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who were aged 18 or over on Thursday 2 May 2013 were entitled to vote in the local elections. Those who were temporarily away from their ordinary address (for example, away working, on holiday, in student accommodation or in hospital) were also entitled to vote in the local elections,[2] although those who had moved abroad and registered as overseas electors cannot vote in the local elections. It is possible to register to vote at more than one address (such as a university student who had a term-time address and lives at home during holidays) at the discretion of the local Electoral Register Office, but it remains an offence to vote more than once in the same local government election.[3] Results{{Election Summary Begin|title = Leicestershire County Council election, 2013}}{{Election Summary Party||party = Conservative Party (UK) |seats = 30 |gain = 1 |loss = 7 |net = −6 |seats % = 54.6 |votes % = 39.5 |votes = 66,687 |plus/minus = −4.9 }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Liberal Democrats (UK) |seats = 13 |gain = 0 |loss = 1 |net = −1 |seats % = 23.6 |votes % = 19.2 |votes = 32,496 |plus/minus = −7.9 }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Labour Party (UK) |seats = 10 |gain = 6 |loss = 0 |net = +6 |seats % = 18.2 |votes % = 24.3 |votes = 41,145 |plus/minus = +8.8 }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = United Kingdom Independence Party |seats = 2 |gain = 2 |loss = 0 |net = +2 |seats % = 3.6 |votes % = 13.4 |votes = 22,722 |plus/minus = N/A }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Independent (politician) |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = ±0 |seats % = 0 |votes % = 2.1 |votes = 3,563 |plus/minus = +1.2 }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = British National Party |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 1 |net = −1 |seats % = 0 |votes % = 0.9 |votes = 1,542 |plus/minus = −11.2 }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = ±0 |seats % = 0 |votes % = 0.3 |votes = 478 |plus/minus = N/A }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = British Democratic Party (2013) |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = ±0 |seats % = 0 |votes % = 0.3 |votes = 421 |plus/minus = N/A }} |} Results by electoral divisionResults for individual divisions are shown below.[4] They have been divided into their respective Districts or Boroughs and listed alphabetically.
