The defending champions CS Sfaxien did not enter the tournament as they qualified for the 2014 CAF Champions League and reached the group stage. In the final, Al-Ahly of Egypt defeated Séwé Sport of Côte d'Ivoire on the away goals rule after drawing 2–2 on aggregate, to win their first title, and a record-extending 19th overall African title (having already won eight African Champions Cup/CAF Champions League titles, six CAF Super Cup titles and four African Cup Winners' Cup titles).[1] They earned the right to play in the 2015 CAF Super Cup.[2] Association team allocationAll 56 CAF member associations may enter the CAF Confederation Cup, with the 12 highest ranked associations according to their CAF 5-Year Ranking eligible to enter two teams in the competition. The title holders could also enter if they had not already qualified for the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup.[2] As a result, theoretically a maximum of 69 teams could enter the tournament (plus eight teams eliminated from the CAF Champions League which enter the play-off round) – although this level has never been reached. For the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup, the CAF used the 2008–2012 CAF 5-Year Ranking, which calculated points for each entrant association based on their clubs’ performance over those 5 years in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. The criteria for points were the following:[3]
The points were multiplied by a coefficient according to the year as follows:

ScheduleThe schedule of the competition was as follows (all draws held at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt unless otherwise stated).[5]
Qualifying rounds{{main|2014 CAF Confederation Cup qualifying rounds}}The draw for the preliminary, first and second qualifying rounds was held on 16 December 2013.[8] Qualification ties were played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. If the sides were level on aggregate after the second leg, the away goals rule was applied, and if still level, the tie proceeded directly to a penalty shoot-out (no extra time was played).[2] Preliminary round{{TwoLegStart}}{{TwoLegResult|Al-Malakia|SSD|1–5|CARA Brazzaville|CGO|0–1|1–4}}{{TwoLegResult|AFC Leopards|KEN|4–1|Defence Force|ETH|2–0|2–1}}{{TwoLegResult|SuperSport United|RSA|3–0|Gaborone United|BOT|2–0|1–0}}{{TwoLegResult|AS Kigali|RWA|2–1|Académie Tchité|BDI|1–0|1–1}}{{TwoLegResult|Difaâ El Jadidi|MAR|1–0|AS SONABEL|BFA|1–0|0–0}}{{TwoLegResult|RSLAF|SLE|0–3|Gamtel|GAM|0–1|0–2}}{{TwoLegResult|The Panthers|EQG|1–4|Medeama|GHA|1–2|0–2}}{{TwoLegResult|Azam|TAN|1–2|Ferroviário da Beira|MOZ|1–0|0–2}}{{TwoLegResult|St Michel United|SEY|3–3 (7–6 p)|ASSM Elgeco Plus|MAD|2–1|1–2}}{{TwoLegResult|How Mine|ZIM|6–1|Chuoni|ZAN|4–0|2–1}}{{TwoLegResult|AS Kondzo|CGO|3–3 (a)|Yong Sports Academy|CMR|2–0|1–3}}{{TwoLegResult|ASN Nigelec|NIG|3–4|CS Constantine|ALG|2–0|1–4}}{{TwoLegResult|Red Lions|LBR|{{Tooltip|w/o|Walkover}}{{Cref2|A}}|Estrela de Cantanhez|GNB|—|—}}{{TwoLegResult|Al-Ahli Tripoli|LBY|1–2|Club Olympique de Bamako|MLI|1–1|0–1}}{{TwoLegResult|Al-Ahli Atbara|SDN|1–1 (a)|MK Etanchéité|COD|1–1|0–0}}{{TwoLegResult|African Stars|NAM|2–3|Petro de Luanda|ANG|2–0|0–3}}{{TwoLegResult|Ebusua Dwarfs|GHA|1–0|ASC Diaraf|SEN|1–0|0–0}}{{TwoLegResult|AS Douanes Lomé|TOG|3–1|CI Kamsar|GUI|2–0|1–1}}{{TwoLegResult|CS Don Bosco|COD|3–1|Victoria University|UGA|3–0|0–1}}{{TwoLegResult|Union Douala|CMR|4–2|ASLAD|CHA|3–0|1–2}}{{TwoLegResult|CF Mounana|GAB|3–4|Desportivo da Huíla|ANG|3–1|0–3}}|}
