The Ockham New Zealand Book Awards are a series of literary awards to works of New Zealand citizens. They were created in 1996, merging the Montana Book Awards and the New Zealand Book Awards into the Montana New Zealand Book Awards.[1]

There are four categories: fiction (the Acorn Foundation Literary Award), general non-fiction, illustrated non-fiction, and poetry. "Best First Book" prizes are awarded to first time authors in each of the categories. The awards event is the opening event of the Auckland Writers Festival. The Awards' main sponsors are Ockham Residential, The Acorn Foundation, Creative New Zealand, and Book Tokens Ltd.

The earlier incarnation of the New Zealand Book Awards ran from 1976 to 1995, while the Goodman Fielder Wattie Book Awards ran from 1968 to 1993. Montana Wines assumed sponsorship in 1994 and the awards became the Montana Book Awards (1994–1995).[2][1] From 2010 until 2014, the awards were known as the New Zealand Post Book Awards. They are governed by the New Zealand Book Awards Trust.

List of winners by year

NB: Due to change of sponsors from New Zealand Post to Ockham Residential, there were no awards in 2015.[3][4]
