With an apparent visual magnitude of +5.6,[1] it is dimly visible to the naked eye under good viewing conditions. The distance to this star can be estimated from its annual parallax shift of {{Val|7.99|0.77|ul=mas}}, which yields a value of around 410 light years. It is moving closer to the Sun with a heliocentric radial velocity of −29 km/s[3] and will reach perihelion in about two million years at an estimated distance of {{Convert|86|pc|ly|abbr=on|order=flip|sigfig=2}}.[5] The stellar classification of 4 Scorpii is A3 V,[2] indicating this is an ordinary A-type main-sequence star. It has 2.6 times the mass of the Sun and is radiating around 92 times the Sun's luminosity from its photosphere at an effective temperature of about 8,356 K.[11] References1. ^1 {{cite journal|title=The Tycho-2 catalogue of the 2.5 million brightest stars|author=Høg, E.|display-authors=etal|date=2000|journal=Astronomy and Astrophysics|volume=355|pages=L27–L30|bibcode=2000A&A...355L..27H}} Vizier catalog entry[5][6][7]2. ^1 {{cite journal|bibcode=1999MSS...C05....0H|title=Michigan catalogue of two-dimensional spectral types for the HD Stars, Vol. 5|journal=Michigan Spectral Survey|volume=5|pages=0|author1=Houk, N.|author2=Swift, C.|year=1999}} 3. ^1 {{cite journal|title=Pulkovo Compilation of Radial Velocities for 35 495 Hipparcos stars in a common system|author=Gontcharov, G.
