The name Actinocorallia derives from:
Greek noun 'aktis, aktinos (ἀκτίς, ἀκτῖνος), a beam; Latin noun corallium, coral; New Latin feminine gender noun Actinocorallia, meaning an actinomycete microorganism that forms sporophores resembling coral.^[2]
