Dattaraj. It stars Rajkumar and Gayathri in the lead roles. Rajkumar appeared in a dual role. This was the last movie in which Gayathri appeared in a lead role. PlotJagannath Rao (Rajkumar), a coffee estate owner lives with his wife Kamala (Gayathri) and they have a son Gopi (also Rajkumar). Jagannath's brother in-law Mahesh (Thoogudeepa Srinivas) also lives with them. One day Kamala quarrels with her husband suspecting him of having an affair with a lady named Sarala (Uma Shivakumar), angered by her words, Jagannath slaps her which kills her accidentally. But somehow Jagannath makes everyone believe that she died in a car crash. His servant Ramaiah knows the truth, but Jagannath warns him not to tell anyone. Meanwhile Gopi loves Sujatha (Vijayaranjini), who actually happens to be Sarala's sister. She too loves him. Gopi wins her father's heart after he beats a goon (Sudheer) who threatens to kidnap Sujatha and marry her. Sujatha's parents say they're delighted to accept Gopi as their son in-law. A (cat-eyed) inspector Sreedhar, who is enquiring the case of Kamala's death visits Jagannath to know what had happened. But Jagannath pretends as if he's not in a state to talk about it. Sreedhar tells him that he feels it was not an accident, but a murder. On his way, he meets Ramaiah and tells him to meet him at the police station. The next day, Ramaiah goes missing, Gopi and his uncle Mahesh try to find him, but in vain. Then Gopi goes to the police station where he meets Sreedhar to complain that Ramaiah has been missing. Sreedhar tells him that he was waiting for Ramaiah, but he never came. One day Jagannath sees Gopi with a girl and discovers that she's Sarala's sister. When Jagannath asks Gopi he says that he loves her and wishes to marry her. But Jagannath refuses this and tells Gopi that he cannot marry her. Gopi is saddened by his father's decision. Gopi who is also a racer takes part in a race where he meets with an accident. Doctor in the hospital tells Jagannath that Gopi has lost his eyes. Jagannath is saddened and pleads to the doctor to take his eyes, but the doctor straight away refuses as he can't take his eyes while he's alive. But Jagannath feels he must die in order to donate his eyes and attempts to commit suicide, but somehow Mahesh saves him. Meanwhile at the hospital, Sujatha comes every day to the hospital to meet Gopi. After Gopi is discharged from the hospital Sujatha comes to see him, on seeing her love for Gopi, Jagannath feels that he should get Gopi married to her. One day Jagannath goes for a walk thinking about the plight of his son and gets confronted by Sreedhar who says that he strongly feels Kamala was murdered, but Jagannath does not say much. That evening he gets a call from Sreedhar who wants to meet regarding the case, but Jagannath refuses. But Sreedhar tells him that he would come to his house to meet him. But on his way Sreedhar gets killed by Jagannath. The next day the doctor calls Jagannath's house telling that they have got the eyes and now Gopi can get back his eyesight. But coincidentally it is Sreedhar's eyes, who had wished to donate his eyes after his death. Jagannath is very happy that his son's life will be back to normal but unaware that it's Sreedhar's eyes which will be transplanted. After the surgery doctor suggests Gopi to wear sunglasses for a few days. But Jagannath is haunted by memory of Sreedhar especially his eyes. He goes for a walk but doesn't return. Gopi and his uncle go in search of him and find him lying unconscious under a tree. They take him back home. One day on his way back home after meeting Sujatha Gopi finds shelter under a tree as it suddenly starts to rain. Gopi realises that it was the same tree under which his father was lying unconscious. He also discovers a body buried and grows suspicious. Gopi also gets shocked to know about Sreedhar's death from a friend. At home Gopi sees his father getting frightened on seeing a cat and killing it. This makes him more suspicious. Gopi places a portrait of a cat in his father's room and is worried after seeing his father behaving differently and destroying the portrait. Gopi becomes desperate to know about his father's weird behavior. He goes to his father telling him that he wanted him to see his new eyes first. Gopi removes his sunglasses and on seeing it Jagannath is frightened as it reminds him of Sreedhar, Gopi reveals that it is Sreedhar's eyes which were transplanted. This haunts Jagannath even more. Gopi's suspicion grows even more. So next day when Gopi confronts his father, who starts to beat him as his eyes are reminding him of Sreedhar. But Mahesh stops Jagannath. Gopi asks his father why he was behaving strangely on seeing cat or cat eyes. Gopi also reveals that he was wearing lenses that was making look like a cat-eyed person. Regretting his actions Jagannath confesses that he got very angry when Kamala suspected him and scolded him, so he slapped her and accidentally she died. Not knowing what to do he made it appear as if she died in an accident. But Ramaiah knew this. So he feared that Ramaiah might reveal the truth to Sreedhar during the interrogation, so he killed him and buried him. But Sreedhar was suspicious about this and was confident that it was a murder, so he had to kill him too. After hearing this, Gopi and his uncle Mahesh are shocked to hear this. But before they realise, Jagannath leaves in his car. Gopi and Mahesh follow him in order to stop him. But Jagannath's car falls down from a hill and explodes, thus killing him. On seeing this, Gopi and Mahesh are saddened. The movie ends. Cast
