The Academic Female Voice Choir Lyran, in {{lang-sv|Akademiska Damkören Lyran|lit=The Academic Women's Choir the Lyre}} ({{IPA-sv|akaˈdeːmɪska ˈdɑːmkœːrɛn ˈlyːran|pron}}), also referred to as simply {{lang|sv|Lyran}}, is a Finland-Swedish academic female voice choir in Helsinki, Finland.{{sfn|Ekberg|Svenska folkskolans vänner|2011}}{{sfn|Ekberg|Svenska folkskolans vänner|2016}} It is the only female voice choir affiliated with the University of Helsinki.

History

The choir was established in 1946{{sfn|Dahlström|2009}} by a group of female students in Helsinki, led by Eja Tollet {{nee|Sevelius}}, who became the first artistic director of the choir.{{sfn|Ekberg|Svenska folkskolans vänner|2016}} The choir was known as {{lang|sv|Gillekören Lyran}}{{efn|Lit. 'The Guild Choir the Lyre'}} until 1948.{{sfn|Nymark-Björkstam|Colliander|Harms-Aalto|1996|pp=22–27}}{{sfn|Runn|2004a|p=6}}

Present artistic director Jutta Seppinen, MMus, began her tenure in the autumn term of 2009.{{sfn|Ekberg|Svenska folkskolans vänner|2016}}

Ever since 1954, the choir has collaborated extensively with the Academic Male Voice Choir of Helsinki ({{lang-sv|Akademiska Sångföreningen}}),{{sfn|Ekström|Duncker|1963|pp=105–106}} the sole other Swedish-language University of Helsinki choir. The two choirs give several annually recurring concerts together.{{sfn|Academic Male Voice Choir of Helsinki|n.d.}}
