Alastair Eric Hotson Salvesen CBE (born 1941) is a British billionaire businessman and heir.

Early life

Alastair Eric Hotson Salvesen[1] was born in 1941,[2] the son of Iver Ronald Stuart Salvesen (1901–1957) and Marion Hamilton Salvesen (née McClure) (died 1997).[3] They owned Bonnington House from 1944 to 1978.[4]

Iver Salvesen was the son of Johan Thomas Salvesen (1854–1926), who was the son of Christian Fredrik Salvesen (1827–1911), who was Norwegian, and founded Christian Salvesen in the UK in 1846.[2]

He was educated at Fettes College, and Cranfield University where he obtained an MBA. He is a chartered accountant.[2]

Career

He is chairman of Dawnfresh Seafoods Ltd, Dawnfresh Holdings Ltd, Scot Trout Ltd, RR Spink and Sons Ltd, Dovecot Studios Ltd, The Dovecot Foundation, Praha Investment Holdings Ltd, Edinburgh New Town Cookery School Ltd, Fettes Enterprises Ltd 1995, and has various other business interests.[5]

In April 2015, the Sunday Times estimated his net worth at £1.0 billion[6]

Philanthropy

He donated £5 million to found The Salvesen Mindroom Centre to Understand and Resolve Learning Difficulties at Edinburgh University.[7]

Honours

He was awarded a CBE in 2011.[8]

Personal life

He is married to Elizabeth.[7] They have a son George Salvesen,[9] and a daughter Venetia Salvesen.

In 1992, they bought the Whitburgh estate near Pathhead, Midlothian.[10]
