BiographyMassialas was born in San Francisco, California[5] to a father of Greek descent and a Taiwanese mother.[6] His father, Greg Massialas, fenced for the United States in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, and currently coaches the American national foil team. His sister, Sabrina, is also a high-level foil fencer. Despite this, Massialas was never pushed into fencing. After he showed spontaneous interest at an early age, his father made him wait until he was seven years old to begin training.[7] An athletic child, Massialas also played soccer, and made the basketball and the swimming teams at Drew School. He enrolled Stanford University on a fencing scholarship in the fall of 2012.[8] He closed his freshman season by winning the 2013 NCAA title in individual men's foil.[9] He repeated this feat in 2015, after falling to David Willette in 2014's semifinal round.[10][11] References{{Commons category|Alexander Massialas}}1. ^1 http://www.usfencing.org/page/show/2513964-alexander-massialas 2. ^http://www.usfencing.org/page/show/707550-alexander-massialas 3. ^http://fie.org/fencers/Alexander-MASSIALAS-21958 4. ^http://fie.org/fencers/fencer/21958 5. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.teamusa.org/Athletes/MA/Alexander-Massialas.aspx |title= Alexander Massialas |website= TeamUSA.org |publisher= United States Olympic Committee}} 6. ^{{cite news |url= http://newamericamedia.org/2012/07/young-fencer-alexander-massialas-carries-on-his-fathers-dream.php |title= Young Fencer Alexander Massialas Carries on His Father's Dream |work= New America Media |date= July 24, 2012}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.mercurynews.com/peninsula-sports/ci_26743355/fencing-stanfords-massialas-take-world|title=Fencing: Stanford's Massialas to take on the world|author=Vytas Mazeika|newspaper=San José Mercury News|date=October 16, 2014}} 8. ^{{cite news |url= http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_21129851/san-francisco-teen-alexander-massialas-makes-mark-u |title= San Francisco teen Alexander Massialas makes mark on U.S. Olympic fencing team |author=David Pollak|newspaper= San José Mercury News |date= July 21, 2012}} 9. ^{{cite web |url= https://www.ncaa.com/news/fencing/article/2013-03-22/massialas-bounces-back |title= Massialas bounces back |website= NCAA.com |date= October 24, 2013}} 10. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.escrimeresults.com/NCAA/NCAA2014.html |title=2014 NCAA Results |work=NCAA |publisher=NCAA |date=2014 |accessdate=January 20, 2016 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160107065155/http://www.escrimeresults.com/NCAA/NCAA2014.html |archivedate=January 7, 2016 }} 11. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.escrimeresults.com/NCAA/NCAA2015.html |title=2015 NCAA Results |work=NCAA |publisher=NCAA |date=2015 |accessdate=January 20, 2016 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160131103601/http://www.escrimeresults.com/NCAA/ncaa2015.html |archivedate=January 31, 2016 }} External links
