Alomo Bitters is a herbal based alcoholic drink produced in Ghana by Kasapreko. It is popular not only in Ghana but also in Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.[1]. Its popularity has led to a lot of counterfeit production. However, Kasapreko company took proactive measures to battle counterfeiting by introducing new bottles for the 200ml and 750ml sizes plus a tamper proof seal. Alomo Bitters now wears a premium and refreshing look. [2][3] Some of the ingredients in the alomo bitters[4] and their effects in the body. Wormwood leaves: wordwood has been recognized for some of its most important ingredients - absinthol and azulenes and their anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic properties. There were cases of its effectiveness in stimulating the digestive system, excretion of bile from the liver, gall bladder. Also in improving digestion by stimulating HCL production in the stomach and killing bacteria such as Helicobacter Pylori. So also in treating liver problem, digestive problems, fever, worm infections, increasing libido and stimulating sweat and regulating the body temperature. Goldenseal rhizome :goldenseal which is also one of the ingredients in making alomo bitter has been proven in several health findings for its efficacy in the treatment of digestive problems. goldenseal has been used in treating stomach pain, peptic ulcers, constipation, hemorrhoids, colitis, diarrhea, and bloating. Artichoke leaf ( Cynara scolymus ) is another ingredient of alomo bitters and this leaf has been proven to be rich in folate, antioxidants, which means it can help reducing oxidative stress and free radicals in the body. It's also rich in dietary fiber, and vitamins C and K. Gentian root: Alomo was said to have the extracts from the back of Gentian root.And the bark have been used in making other medicines for treating intestinal gas, improving food appetite, and correcting high blood pressure. It is also used against heart burn, hysteria, diabetes, diarrhea, gastritis, fever and nausea. Blessed thistle leaves: Thistle leaf is very popular among tea baggers and it has been used to increase appetite and digestion successfully. However, these ingredients are in small proportions when compared to the high volume of alcohol. There's also no valid evidence of healthy effects in the body for consuming this product.
