LifeFrank was born in New Iberia, Louisiana in 1932.[1] At the age of 15, she applied to a liberal arts program and was accepted at the University of Chicago, graduating three years later.{{Citation needed|date=February 2018}} After graduating from the University of Chicago in 1950, she moved to Los Angeles, where she attended graduate school at UCLA and the University of Southern California (USC). At USC she met Larry Frank, as aspiring filmmaker; they married in 1953. For ten years she worked on educational films that her husband produced. Her work as a film editor helped cultivate her sense of composition, something that served her well when she took up painting.[2] She moved to New Mexico when she was 43 years old, and began painting in 1973, specializing in boldly colored landscape paintings influenced by fauvism and German expressionism[3] She refers to herself as a "Taos Expressionist".[4] Over 26 years she created a large body of work, completing more than 600 canvases, primarily large landscapes as well as nearly one hundred portraits.{{Citation needed|date=February 2018}} Her painting The Upper Falls at Yosemite (ca. 1996) was part of an exhibition on the art of Yosemite which appeared at the Autry National Center, the Oakland Museum of California, the Nevada Museum of Art and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art from 2006 to 2008.[4] She is a resident of Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico,[5] and was married to Larry Frank, a filmmaker and author, until his death.[6] They collected Native American and Hispano American art and artifacts.[6] References1. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.southwestart.com/articles-interviews/featured-artists/alyce_frank|title=Legends of Fine Art {{!}} Alyce Frank - Southwest Art Magazine|date=1970-01-01|work=Southwest Art Magazine|access-date=2018-02-15|language=en-US}} {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Frank, Alyce}}2. ^{{Cite book|title=The Magical Realism of Alyce Frank|last=Dispenza|first=Joseph|publisher=New Mexico Magazine Artist Series|year=1999|isbn=0-937206571|location=New Mexico|pages=8, 9}} 3. ^{{Cite book | last = Trainer | first = Laureen | authorlink = |author2=edited by Amy Scott | title = Yosemite: Art of an American Icon | publisher = University of California Press | series = | volume = | edition = | year = 2006 | location = | pages = 199 | language = | url = https://books.google.com/books?id=2BNdexGoHkkC&pg=PA226&dq=Yosemite:+Art+of+an+American+icon&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Sn1AU5DWOJCFyQGYxoCwDA&ved=0CEkQ6AEwAA | id = | isbn = | mr = | zbl = | jfm = }} 4. ^{{cite book|last=Scott|first=Amy|title=Yosemite: Art of an American Icon|publisher=Autry National Center and University of California Press|location=Los Angeles and Berkeley|year=2006|pages=222|isbn=9780520249226}} 5. ^{{cite web | last =Kendall | first =Judith | authorlink = | title =Remarkable Women / Community Profiles: Alyce Frank, Artists | work =Taos.org | publisher = | year =2012 | url =http://taos.org/women/community-profiles?/item/197/Alyce-Frank-Artist | format = | doi = | accessdate = April 5, 2014 | archiveurl = | archivedate = }} 6. ^1 2 {{cite news | last = | first = | title =Alyce Frank: Taos Expressionist | newspaper =Taos News | location = | pages = | language = | publisher = | date =March 9, 2014 | url =http://www.taosnews.com/entertainment/arts/article_68f5bdda-a790-11e3-9451-0019bb2963f4.html | accessdate =April 5, 2014}} 11 : 1932 births|Living people|20th-century American women artists|American women painters|Artists from Louisiana|Painters from New Mexico|University of California, Los Angeles alumni|University of Chicago alumni|University of Southern California alumni|People from New Iberia, Louisiana|21st-century American women artists |
