He joined the MILF after 1985, after he graduated from Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.[3] Umbra Kato was the Philippines' most wanted man though due to his still official membership in the MILF he was not hunted by the military.[4] However a warrant of arrest was filed against him together with other BIFF members by the Philippine National Police. The Armed Forces of the Philippines, with the MILF, launched Operation Darkhorse in a bid to arrest him in January 2014. Kato reportedly died on 14 April 2015 of a heart attack. BIFF spokesperson Abu Misry Mama confirmed his death after he was informed by Kato's son that he died at 2:00 am due to complications from pneumonia. He was reported to have died in Barangay Kateman in Guindulungan, Maguindanao, but this was denied by the barangay chairman.[5][3] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=PNP Nationwide Ten Most Wanted Person|url=http://pnp.gov.ph/portal/index.php/public-relations/most-wanted-person|website=Philippine National Police|publisher=Philippine National Police|accessdate=10 February 2015|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150210001645/http://pnp.gov.ph/portal/index.php/public-relations/most-wanted-person|archivedate=10 February 2015|df=}} 2. ^{{cite news|last1=Madrid|first1=Red|title=Ameril Umbra Kato: Moro Rebel to Rogue|url=http://newscentral.ph/blog/2015/04/14/ameril-umbra-kato-moro-rebel-to-rogue/|accessdate=15 April 2015|publisher=News Central Philippines|date=14 April 2015}} 3. ^1 {{cite news|last1=Torres|first1=Joe|title=Philippines rebel chief dies of heart attack|url=http://www.ucanews.com/news/philippines-rebel-chief-dies-of-heart-attack/73376|accessdate=14 April 2015|publisher=UCA News|date=14 April 2015|location=Manila}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gZCxWE1M7IRGJjxO89_4EizLpW_g?docId=CNG.34470201aad2d4edd8f5e5b94e506899.311 |title=AFP: Hardline Philippine rebel vows to derail peace |publisher=Google.com |date=2011-08-28 |accessdate=2013-09-28}} 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Andong|first1=Lore Mae|title=BIFF confirms Kato's death; replacement named|url=http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/regions/04/14/15/biff-confirms-katos-death-replacement-named|accessdate=14 April 2015|publisher=ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao|date=14 April 2015}} External links
