Janakiraman ("Thi Jaa"). It is a fictional account of a youngster who returns home from his vedic school. It is one of Thi Jaa's most important works,[1] and one of the few that have been translated into English, published in 1972 as The Sins of Appu's Mother.[2] PlotAppu, a vedic scholar, returns from his school after completing his studies. After reaching home, Appu comes to know about his mother's affair with Sivasu, and that the other family members are already aware of it. His mother reveals that she had sent him to the vedic school to atone for her sins. A heartbroken Appu goes back to his school after hearing of his guru's illness, as someone has to run the school. ReceptionTriloki Nath Madan called the book "a particularly insightful interpretation of the mother–son relationship, when the son is cast by a strong-willed mother in the role of her savior".[3]References1. ^{{cite news |last=Ashokamitran |title=Janakiraman sends a wire |url=http://www.hindu.com/mag/2008/03/09/stories/2008030950150400.htm |accessdate=19 May 2014 |newspaper=Times of India |date=9 March 2008 |quote=In 1966, he had written probably the most discussed novel, Amma Vandaal.}} 2. ^{{Google books|GGkOAAAAYAAJ|title=The Sins of Appu's Mother}} 3. ^Triloki Nath Madan, {{google books|id=8dn6jUf4LKcC|page=142|title=Choice and Morality in Anthropological Perspective}} External links{{1960s-novel-stub}} 4 : Tamil novels|1966 novels|Novels set in Tamil Nadu|1966 Indian novels |
