释义 |
Sale and repurchase of EdgeIn 1999, el-Nasharty sold 80% of Edge to U.K. grocer J. Sainsbury plc for £50 million as part of Sainsbury's attempt to diversify into the Middle East. The venture failed after the stores were boycotted over alleged links to Israel and Sainsburys withdrew from Egypt in 2001, selling the business back to el-Nasharty. The parties became embroiled in a bitter legal dispute over the terms of the buy-back that saw Sainsbury CEO Mike Coupe accused of criminal acts by an Egyptian court.[2][3] In June 2015, Coupe was acquitted of the charges.[4] References1. ^{{cite web|author=Sean Farrell |url=https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/29/sainsburys-mike-coupe-prison-sentence-egypt-amr-el-nasharty |title=Sainsbury's rejects claims against chief executive sentenced to jail in Egypt | World news |publisher=Theguardian.com |date=2015-04-29 |accessdate=2015-05-03}} 2. ^{{cite web|author=Finance |url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/2867247/Sainsburys-hit-by-claim-over-failed-Egyptian-foray.html |title=Sainsbury's hit by claim over failed Egyptian foray |publisher=Telegraph.co.uk |date= |accessdate=2015-05-03}} 3. ^{{cite web|last=Pleasance |first=Chris |url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3060505/Sainsbury-s-boss-sentenced-absence-two-years-Egyptian-jail-supermarket-s-failed-Middle-Eastern-venture-decade-ago.html |title=Sainsbury's CEO Mike Coupe sentenced in his absence to two years in Egyptian jail | Daily Mail Online |publisher=Dailymail.co.uk |date=2015-04-29 |accessdate=2015-05-03}} 4. ^[https://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/11/idUSFWN0YW05A20150611 BRIEF-Sainsbury says CEO Mike Coupe acquitted by Egyptian court.] Reuters, 11 June 2015.
