Baseball career

Amateur days

Knapp was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 41st round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft out of Granite Bay High School in Granite Bay, California. He did not sign with the Athletics, and instead attended the University of California, Berkeley to play college baseball in the Pacific-12 Conference. In 2013, Knapp was 3rd in the conference with a .350 batting average, tied for 3rd with a .544 slugging percentage, ranked 4th with a .434 on base percentage, and hit 8 home runs.[2] Over three seasons, he hit .294, with 14 home runs, and 82 RBIs for the California Golden Bears baseball team.[3] Knapp’s younger brother, Aaron also played for Berkeley and in Minor League Baseball (MiLB).

Minor leagues

Knapp was then drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He signed with the Phillies and made his professional debut with the Williamsport Crosscutters where he posted a .253 batting average with four home runs and 23 RBIs in 62 games. He spent 2014 with both the Lakewood BlueClaws and Clearwater Threshers,[4] hitting a combined .260 with six home runs and 32 RBIs in 98 games.

Knapp started 2015 with Clearwater, and was promoted to the Reading Fightin Phils during the season.[5][6] He posted a combined .308 batting average with 13 home runs and 84 RBIs in 118 total games between the two teams. Knapp spent 2016 with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs where he batted .266 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs in 107 games.[7]

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies added Knapp to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[8] Knapp made the Phillies' 2017 Opening Day roster and spent the whole season there. For the season, he batted .257/.368/.368 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 56 games (171 at bats). Knapp hit the team’s first walk off home run since 2016 on July 1, 2018, in the 13th inning against the Washington Nationals.[9] In 2018, he batted .198/.294/.316 with 4 home runs and 15 RBIs.[1]
