He became a fixture in the Liverpool side, playing 19 matches in the 1897–98 Football League season. The following season, he scored five goals in 12 matches as Liverpool finished runners-up to Aston Villa.[3] In 1899, McCowie dropped down to the Second Division to join Woolwich Arsenal. Playing mainly at inside left, McCowie scored seven goals in 28 league appearances, and also played five matches in the FA Cup.[4][5] He moved to Middlesbrough early in the 1900–01 season,[6] and spent the following season with another Second Division club, Chesterfield Town.[1] McCowie badly injured a knee during a match against Newton Heath in March 1902,[7] and never played league football again.[2] McCowie died in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, on 15 November 1957, at the age of 81.[8] References1. ^{{cite web |url=https://playupliverpool.com/1957/11/15/andrew-mccowie-andy-mccowie-playupliverpool-com/ |title=Andrew McCowie (Andy McCowie) |website=PlayUpLiverpool.com |publisher=Kjell Hanssen |accessdate=21 October 2017}} {{DEFAULTSORT:McCowie, Andrew}}2. ^1 {{cite book |last=Joyce |first=Michael |title=Football League Players' Records 1888 to 1939 |publisher=SoccerData |location=Nottingham |year=2004 |isbn=978-1-899468-67-6}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/736 |title=Andrew McCowie |publisher=LFC History |accessdate=21 October 2017}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.arsenal.com/historic/players/andrew-mccowie |title=Andrew McCowie |publisher=Arsenal F.C. |accessdate=22 October 2016 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20161023051046/http://www.arsenal.com/history/profiles/449/andrew-mccowie |archivedate=23 October 2016}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.thearsenalhistory.com/stat/aftlu.htm |title=Arsenal first team line-ups |website=The Arsenal History |publisher=Andy Kelly |accessdate=21 October 2017}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=https://playupliverpool.com/1900/10/04/andy-mccowie-signs-for-middlesbrough/ |title=New forward for Middlesbrough |newspaper=Daily Gazette for Middlesbrough |date=4 October 1900 |page=3 |accessdate=21 October 2017 |via=PlayUpLiverpool.com (transcript)}} 7. ^{{cite news |title=Football notes |newspaper=Derbyshire Times and Chesterfield Herald |date=22 March 1902 |page=2 |quote=...the knee of an opponent caught McCowie in the abdomen and brought him down.
