Smith, a defender, was recruited from Watsonia.[1] He played just once in 1980, his debut year, but in 1981 was a regular fixture in the Collingwood team, making 18 appearances, including two finals.[2] A dislocated shoulder, suffered during Collingwood's semi-final win over Fitzroy, cost him his spot in the side and ultimately a grand final.[2][3] Smith played 11 games in 1982 and added only five more games over the next two seasons and made the move to Sydney.[2] His only appearances for Sydney were in the opening four rounds of the 1985 VFL season. He then joined Brunswick.[2][4] References1. ^{{cite book|last=Holmesby|first=Russell|last2=Main|first2=Jim|title=The Encyclopedia Of AFL Footballers| publisher=BAS Publishing|year=2007|isbn=9781920910785}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Smith, Andrew}}2. ^1 2 3 AFL Tables: Andrew Smith 3. ^Canberra Times, "Thrilling final to come", 13 September 1981, p. 6S 4. ^The Age, "Coburg quick to prove it's a flag contender", 14 April 1986, p. 31 6 : 1960 births|Australian rules footballers from Victoria (Australia)|Collingwood Football Club players|Sydney Swans players|Brunswick Football Club players|Living people |
