His second channel, "GrandpasCorner", was his personal channel where he shared stories about his personal life along with a special weekly segment called "Mailbag Monday," where he opened up packages and read letters sent in by viewers. His fanbase is known as "Grandpa's Army", and he affectionately referred to them as "youngins". Green died on December 10, 2017, of cirrhosis, at the age of 67. YouTuber Jesse Ridgway known as McJuggerNuggets on YouTube was influenced by The Angry Grandpa to create a series called the Psycho Series with his dad Jeffrey Ridgway Sr. known as Psycho Dad. The Angry Grandpa ShowThe videos featured Green reacting, usually angrily, to several things, such as pranks pulled by his youngest son, Michael Green (who runs the KidBehindACamera channel),[6] to current events, such as the Casey Anthony trial; Michael was coined the nickname "Pickleboy" in 2009 after an attempted prank backfired when Michael jumped out of the bathtub and ambushed Green by throwing a bag of flour on him and Green "pickled" Michael by throwing a jar of pickle juice on him and then shouted "PICKLE BOY! PICKLE BOY!!" Even before the series began, Green was given to fits of rage that led to destruction of certain things, such as when Michael explained in a 2012 vlog about how Green once destroyed five VHS tapes that he rented from Blockbuster (after his wife, Tina, tried to make him sit through A Christmas Story) and was then forced to pay $300 for in 1999. Sometimes, however, Green would destroy something and immediately become remorseful for it, such as when Michael explained in a 2013 vlog about how Green destroyed a Nintendo 64 that he got Michael for Christmas, 1998 on Christmas afternoon (after Michael refused to stop playing the video game that Green got him along with the system, WCW/nWo Revenge, when Green unreasonably ordered him to) and replaced both the system and the game two days later. From 2014 to 2016, Michael had a prank tradition on Easter mornings where he pranked Green by giving him chocolate-covered raw eggs. Michael's longtime girlfriend, Bridgette Nicole West, also nicknamed "Princess" or "Picklegirl", was usually in on Michael's pranks but sometimes she would intentionally foil upcoming pranks by tipping Green off beforehand, enabling him to turn the tables on Michael. An example of this is in the 2014 video "Grandpa's Bodyguard - The Prank", in which Michael attempted to prank Green into thinking he got robbed by breaking into his house while he was sleeping and taking his valuables. This backfired after Bridgette purposefully called Green and told him. As a result, when Michael and Bridgette got there, Green was wide awake. He told Michael his pranking days were over and revealed that he had hired a personal bodyguard. Occasionally, Green would just prank Michael for kicks (often with the help of Bridgette). In 2011, Michael pranked Green by having him try playing The Scary Maze, only for him to get scared of the girl in the game. A year later, a similar video was posted involving the then highly popular game Slender in which Green tried his hand at the game, only to get scared of the Slender Man. The video ended with Green throwing Michael and Bridgette out of his house with his computer. In a 2013 article from the Charleston City Paper, Green stated that he has destroyed numerous articles of furniture, along with electronics, including laptop computers, televisions and cellphones in his fits of rage.[6] He also made some more serious videos, such as in April 2012, when Green had posted a video to his main channel that aimed to publicize the proposed sale of his trailer park where he resided at the time, Trailwood Trailer Park, in North Charleston, South Carolina, to a developer who had aimed to rezone it to light industrial to build a road to a new Boeing plant in North Charleston.[6][6] The sale, however eventually went through and Green relocated to another trailer park later in that same year. In 2014, Green uploaded a video of his response to the death of Eric Garner, titled "Justice for Eric Garner (Grandpa Goes Crazy)", in which he smashed his microwave, ranting that the police "murdered" an innocent man, who "wasn't even fighting back." On December 3rd that year, after the trial, he uploaded another video titled "No Justice For Eric Garner", depicting his enraged response to the grand jury, "made up of morons, idiots and fools", deciding not to indict the policeman who choked Garner. As shown in many videos and vlogs, Green's insane outbursts of anger got him banned from almost all of the Walmart stores, Target stores, McDonald's restaurants and pizza parlors in his area, and even a Sunoco gas station near his old trailer after he cussed out the gas station's employees due to believing that he got the winning lottery ticket, but it was just another one of Michael and Bridgette's pranks. Green's first ever viral video was made in 2011 and titled "Angry Grandpa Gets Kicked Out of CiCi's Pizza", in which he got banned from a local CiCi's Pizza restaurant for snapping over having to wait 2 hours for a deep-dish pizza, smashing 4 to 5 plates, yelling at the manager, and eating off the buffet. As a result, the restaurant tried to sue Green for the video (due to the fact that he smashed restaurant property), but failed. Among Green's other most viewed videos are one featuring his reaction to the Casey Anthony trial, being featured on HLN's Dr. Drew; one showing his reaction to his missing pecan pinwheels, featured on Ray William Johnson's channel and Break.com; one where he does a significant amount of damage to his kitchen when he cannot find his candy, which gained over 3 million views; and one of him commenting on constantly hearing Justin Bieber songs on the radio, which also gained over 3 million views.[7] In December 2014, he destroyed Michael's PlayStation 4 console and coffee table with a utility bar during a heated argument with him about failing to show up and bake Christmas cookies. The video gained over 30 million views as of December 2017, and it is still the most viewed video on The Angry Grandpa Show{{'}}s YouTube channel to this day. Along with the main channel, Green also ran a separate personal channel, "GrandpasCorner", where he posted personal vlogs, in which he showed his softer side more often. He was also featured on Paul Heyman's Heyman Hustle, where Heyman stated that he's a fan of Grandpa and that he always has time for him. His reaction video to Rebecca Black's single, "Friday", also went viral, and was included on The Guardian{{'}}s viral video chart in 2011.[8] The first video under the "Angry Grandpa" moniker was one posted on Break.com around Christmas 2007, entitled "Grandpa Ruins Christmas". The video shows Green raging at his family on Christmas morning for prematurely opening gifts without waiting for him.[6] Michael collaborated with country musician Shooter Jennings, and his now-deceased manager Jon Hensley, to pull pranks on Green; however, they were close friends in real life. Personal lifeGreen was raised in the neighborhood of Sherwood Forest in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the son of Sgt. Charles Marvin Green Sr. (January 25, 1925 – July 6, 1987), a World War II sergeant,[9] and Dorothy Mae Green (née Meyer; March 18, 1926 – December 25, 1999). After his mother passed away in 1999, Green purchased a pet male Chihuahua named Pie to cheer himself up, but two years later, Pie was mauled to death by a neighbor's Rottweiler after he got it angry. Green's older sister, Charlene, died age 65 in 2012 of COPD.[10] He was said to be of English, Irish, Scottish, Samoan Mapua Letui and remote Welsh ancestry.[11] In the late 1980s/early 1990s, Green worked as a firefighter for the City of Charleston Fire Department, and held various jobs in the past including owning small businesses as well as working as an apartment maintenance worker.{{citation needed|date=June 2016}} Green had bipolar disorder, for which he took medication.[12] He credited his YouTube channel and making videos with heavily influencing his lifestyle, turning him around and encouraging him from being an "800-pound alcoholic and distant father" to being more conscious about his health and keeping him busy.[17] In his youth, Green spent a year travelling the United States, which involved attending the Woodstock festival of 1969. In 1975 Green became friends with American serial killer Donald Henry "Pee Wee" Gaskins. Once Gaskins was arrested, he wrote a letter to Green from prison. Green replied by telling Gaskins to never contact him again. Years later, Green took his children to South Carolina Correctional Institution – where Gaskins had been held – before it shut down. Whilst there, Green discovered a pentagram in Gaskins' cell, with Green's name written in the middle of it.[13][14][15] Green was married twice, had five children and eight grandchildren.[16][17][18] He married his second wife, Tina Marie Sharp, in 1982 and had four children with her. In 2012, Green separated from Sharp. Their divorce was finalized on May 25, 2012.[19] On November 4, 2017, Green became engaged to his girlfriend, Lauren Davi, whilst hospitalized.[20][17] Green had his own personal YouTube channel, called "GrandpasCorner", where he told stories about his life and made vlogs and cooking videos.[17] Green, who had lived in a trailer park until 2015, was estimated to have been worth $1.5 million in 2016.[11] In a July 2015 video, Michael surprised Green by buying him a house.[21] At the time of living in his trailer park, Green owned a beautiful brown and white female red-nose pit bull named Hannah, whom he was forced to give to Michael's older sister, Jennifer, before moving into his new house due to the trailer park having recently adopted a "No Dogs Allowed" policy. The dog died a month later following a car crash. {{Citation needed|date=March 2019}} As of September 2015, Green had owned two White Shepherds, named Annabelle and Atticus. Having previously owned one in his youth, Green was given a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air by Michael for Christmas in 2016, in a video which received 1.5 million views in its first two days and was picked up by several news outlets.[22] Health and deathIn the 1990s, Green underwent gastric bypass surgery. The surgery was not completed until several years later. As a complication of the surgery, Green developed dumping syndrome, which he lived with for fifteen years. This condition became so severe that Green became addicted to painkillers. In 2014, Green got this condition under control by using methylscopolamine bromide.[23] In February 2017, it was announced that Green had skin cancer and pneumonia. His cancer later went into remission.[24] On July 4, 2017, Green was hospitalized after collapsing at his son's 4th of July party. Green was later diagnosed with cirrhosis and was later released.[24] Green was also suffering from cellulitis and a urinary tract infection. On October 31, 2017, Green was hospitalized again suffering from a buildup of ammonia in his body, as a result of his cirrhosis. Green's health deteriorated so quickly that he was given a 50% chance of surviving the night. Despite this, Green's health gradually improved and he was released from the intensive care unit on November 9. Green was released from hospital on November 13 and transferred to a rehabilitation center. Green was briefly re-hospitalized when his ammonia levels rose due to him not taking his medicine, but he was released from hospital on December 3 and returned home.[25] Green's health deteriorated over the next week, and he died in his home on December 10, 2017. His death was announced on Twitter by his son, Michael.[17][26] Tributes were paid to Green by several YouTubers and celebrities, including Roseanne Barr, Steven Williams, Paul Heyman, Shooter Jennings, Devon Sawa, Jesse Wellens and Noelle Foley.[27][28][29][30] Green was cremated, and his funeral was held on December 14, in Parks Funeral Home, Summerville.
