Anibar is an organization founded in 2010 by a group of young art activists. The main annual event of the organization is the Anibar International the Festival, which takes place in the city of Peja, Kosovo, during August.

Anibar International Animation Festival is a film festival devoted to animated movies, its intent is to familiarize the people from Kosovo with the latest global trends of animation. Its purpose is mainly in helping and encouraging Kosovo youngsters to express themselves and their ideas through animation by discussing the topics that they are passionate about. This way, they tend to bring out more topics and break civic apathy through cultural activism.[1]

Anibar is working towards its overall goal with capacity-building activities, such as training seminars and workshops, film screenings, debates, and other activities that provide more visibility for emerging artists.[2]

Heavily involved in the planning, preparations and operations of the festival is also a large group of youngsters .

Anibar has a camping area for its guests. The camping site has changed location. It has moved from the national park of Peja “Karagaq” and now lies next to Rugova Gorge, while Lumbardhi runs quietly on the right of the site. Besides the tents that are offered, other supplies are inside the site such as showers, WC, places to relax, food, drinks, and a POOL!

Tickets are of reasonable prices from 3 to 5 euros.

Thanks to Anibar festival a lot more animations are being produced in Kosovo.

This festival now has created a special and irreplaceable place in the Kosovo cultural scene because of its specific nature. In summer 2019, Anibar is expected to have its 10th edition.

History

The Festival was first organized in 2010 and has become an important cultural event for the city of Peja. Anibar is currently the only animation festival in Kosovo, the first of its kind, which screens international and regional film to the Kosovo's Audience. Anibar’s mission is to encourage young people, especially young artists, to experiment and work with animation in order to express their ideas and worldview. The Anibar Festival started in August, 2010, with the goal of creating a new platform in Kosovo for the animated film genre, as well as encouraging and enabling young authors to create new works with classical and contemporary techniques. In 2011, the Anibar Festival was officially represented at the annual Dok Leipzig festival in Germany.[3]

The city cinema "Jusuf Gërvalla" was brought back into life in February 2011 and two years later the new mayor gave it to Anibar to administrate.

In 2012 This year Anibar created its first Quick Response book to promote animators worldwide. The Anibar Film Book is an innovative, one-of-a-kind book in Kosovo created in a collaboration between the festival and Mad Artists Publishing in Canada. Along with information about the festival and the films shown in past years, the book is encoded with Quick Response (QR) Codes that immediately link to all the encoded films instantly.[4]

in the 5th edition held in 2014, the festival has taken another big step forward by taking over the city’s old cinema. Peja has not had a working movie theatre since the equipment broke in the 1960’s and the nearest cinema is in Pristina which is an hour’s drive away. The festival has a big job ahead of it to cultivate the cinema habit in the local population who is used to watching movies on their television screens.

Back in 2009 the organisers had to make do with a budget of 500 euros and 80 films obtained from friends and acquaintances. And through the years the budget has increased. In its 9th edition in 2018, 220 animated films wereselected to be screened As an organization from its creation Anibar has undergone a lot of changes and progress from the beginning when it was way smaller nowadays from its creation until now that the 10th edition is on its way.

Year by year, the festival endeavors screening qualitative films, in both, technical and artistic aspect of the view. The selection of entries is made in accord with a criteria deriving from a limited staff of professionals who aim balancing the audience, artistic reviews and the market .

Anibar continues to grow as an international festival, with thousands of Balkan and international directors and producers applying for their films to be screened each year.
