}}Antonio Alamo Jr. is an American physician, also known as Tony Alamo, who serves as the chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. He has served as the chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission's Medical Advisory Board and as the Chief of Staff at Sunrise Hospital and Children's Mecical Center and St. Rose San Martin Hospital.[1]

Career

A native Nevadan, in 1994 Alamo founded the Alamo Medical Clinic in Henderson, Nevada. Alamo remains the medical director of the Alamo Medical Clinic. From 2001 to 2007, Alamo was a member of the Nevada State Athletic Commission/NSAC.[1]

Before joining the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), he served as the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board that made hepatitis testing mandatory in all athletes. He was part of the board that denied Mike Tyson his license for boxing in 2002.[2]

Before leaving the NSAC, Alamo sanctioned one of the largest bouts in boxing history, Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather. Alamo is the first person in Nevada history to have served on both the Gaming and Athletic Commission.[3]

In July 2014, Alamo was appointed by Governor Brian Sandoval to be chairman to the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Tony Alamo, M.D. serves on the board for the community bank, Bank of George, founded in 2007, which is chartered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.[5]

From 2002 to 2004, he served as the Chief of Staff at Sunrise Hospital and Children's Mecical Center. From 2006 to 2009, he served as the Chief of Staff at St. Rose San Martin Hospital.[2]

Dr. Alamo has worked as a volunteer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) as a tactical physician. He has specialized tactical and trauma medical training and has collaborated with the LVMPD SWAT Team since the late 1990s. He received the Medal of Unit Valor for Valorous Conduct, marking the first time this award was given to a civilian.[6]

Personal life

Antonio Alamo Jr. was born in Reno, Nevada and raised in Las Vegas. He is married and has one son. Dr. Alamo has been a licensed pilot since the age of 19.[8]
