It will be built in North Melbourne, below Laurens and Arden Streets, using the cut-and-cover method.[1][2][3] Major construction commenced in April 2018.[4] The station will be named North Melbourne when it becomes operational, with the existing North Melbourne railway station to be renamed West Melbourne.[5] It will be served by the Sunbury, Pakenham and Cranbourne lines. LocationArden Street was chosen as the site for a new railway station to support the expansion of the central city and provide a focus for the development of a new commercial, residential and activity centre in North Melbourne.[6] The Victorian government has stated that Arden station will support job creation by improving public transport access to inner-west Melbourne, an area which has been earmarked for urban renewal. Fifty-six hectares of land around the proposed Arden station, much of which is owned by the State Government, is earmarked for revitalisation as part of the project.[6][7] The new suburb is expected to house around 15,000 people and provide 34,000 jobs.[8] References1. ^{{cite news |title=Dozens of homes to make way for Melbourne Metro project |url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-20/melbourne-metro-project-dozens-of-homes-cbd-building-to-go/6868934 |accessdate=21 June 2017 |work=ABC News |date=20 October 2015 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170119093600/http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-20/melbourne-metro-project-dozens-of-homes-cbd-building-to-go/6868934 |archivedate=19 January 2017 |language=en-AU |deadurl=no}} 2. ^{{cite news |last1=Carey |first1=Adam |title=Melbourne Metro to close busy city streets for up to three years, including Domain Road |url=http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/melbourne-metro-to-close-busy-city-streets-for-up-to-three-years-including-domain-road-20151105-gkrkwi.html |accessdate=21 June 2017 |work=The Age |date=5 November 2015 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170313132136/http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/melbourne-metro-to-close-busy-city-streets-for-up-to-three-years-including-domain-road-20151105-gkrkwi.html|archive-date=13 March 2017}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=Arden Station construction plans |url=http://metrotunnel.vic.gov.au/construction/arden/constructing-arden-station |website=Metro Tunnel |publisher=Melbourne Metro Rail Authority |accessdate=21 June 2017 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170621073729/http://metrotunnel.vic.gov.au/construction/arden/constructing-arden-station |archivedate=21 June 2017 |language=en-AU |deadurl=no}} 4. ^{{cite news |last1=Jacks |first1=Timna |title=North Melbourne station work begins, booming new suburb set to follow |url=https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/north-melbourne-station-work-begins-booming-new-suburb-set-to-follow-20180424-p4zbes.html |accessdate=1 May 2018 |work=The Age |date=24 April 2018 |language=en}} 5. ^{{cite news |last1=Oaten |first1=James |title=Meet me at Anzac: No 'Station McStation face' for Melbourne's new train stations |url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-29/melbournes-new-train-station-names-unveiled/9205048 |accessdate=26 December 2017 |work=ABC News |date=29 November 2017 |language=en-AU}} 6. ^1 {{cite web |title=Renewing Arden Macaulay |url=https://participate.melbourne.vic.gov.au/ardenmacaulay |website=Participate Melbourne |publisher=City of Melbourne |accessdate=21 June 2017 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170621074015/https://participate.melbourne.vic.gov.au/ardenmacaulay |archivedate=21 June 2017 |language=en-AU |deadurl=no}} 7. ^{{Cite web |url=http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/metro-tunnel-to-help-revitalise-huge-chunk-of-north-melbournes-arden-precinct-20160831-gr60ju.html |title=Metro Tunnel to help revitalise huge chunk of North Melbourne's 'Arden' precinct |last1=Lucas |first1=Clay |last2=Preiss |first2=Benjamin |date=1 September 2016 |website=The Age |accessdate=11 January 2017 |language=en-AU |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20161111161932/http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/metro-tunnel-to-help-revitalise-huge-chunk-of-north-melbournes-arden-precinct-20160831-gr60ju.html |archivedate=11 November 2016 |deadurl=no}} 8. ^{{Cite news |url=http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-09-01/plans-for-new-suburb-in-melbourne's-inner-north-unveiled/7804530 |title=Plans for new suburb in Melbourne's inner north unveiled |date=1 September 2016 |newspaper=ABC News |language=en-AU |accessdate=11 January 2017 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20170505013051/http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-09-01/plans-for-new-suburb-in-melbournes-inner-north-unveiled/7804530 |archivedate=5 May 2017 |deadurl=no}} 3 : Proposed railway stations in Melbourne|Railway stations in Melbourne|Railway stations opened in 202x |
