"Are U Still Down" is a song co-written^[3][4] and performed by American contemporary R&B singer Jon B, issued as a promotional single from his second studio album Cool Relax. It was commissioned as a double single with "They Don't Know" in some markets.^[6][1] The song features a rap by American hip hop musician 2Pac; and it was the final rap verse that 2Pac recorded before his death.^[7] "Are U still down was recorded 2 weeks prior to the rappers untimely demise."

"Are U Still Down" was produced by the late producer Johnny J. ^[8] As a tribute to Tupac, in 2004 10 years after the rappers death Jon B. recorded "Are U Still Down, Part. 2" with the original producer. Johnny J also had plans to release unreleased Tupac records. In part 2, Tupac's lyrics are sampled from his song Happy Home ^[9] which was apart of his Until The End Of Time Album, released on March 27, 2001^[10] 4.5 years after his death.

"Are U Still Down" peaked at #2 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1998.^[11]

Lyrics

The song opens with an introduction from 2Pac dedicating the song to the ladies. The chorus immediately followed by the introduction is sung both by 2Pac and Jon B. In the messaging they hint at he has wronged his girl in their relationship and he feels bad for doing so, however he wants to know if she will stay in the relationship. Even though she is upset at him, it is obvious that she still has feelings in the relationship.

In verse 1, Jon B. explains he understands the pain she must feel and that her many nights at home alone have not gone unnoticed. He wonders if she remembers how close they use to be and if she still can remember those feeling from when they first began dating. He is aware that he has caused her much pain in this relationship and he knows she needs to make a decision as he says "Seem like every time I see you there's a tear in your eye. What you crying for? Time to make a decision or go dying inside." ^[12]

In verse 2, Tupac acknowledges that his friends are telling him he is wrong in the relationship for treating the woman he does. Though they have a great chemistry if she believes that it's best for him to leave then he will but he will always have feelings for her. 2pac also realizes that once you have feelings for someone that strongly they never fully go away.

These sentiments are echoched throughout the remaining song with nods to the history of their relationship, the lesson impedded on him by his mother, past relationship lessons and the act of finding their way back to one another.

Music video

Although not released as an official single, a music video was commissioned for the song, directed by Tim Story.^[13] The official video was uploaded to JonBVEVO on October 25, 2009. The video currently has 14.1 million views and counting. ^[14] The video centers around Jon B. and his love interest. There are three settings within the video. The first being Jon B. in front of a classic red car, the specifics unknown in an all-white suit with matching hat, a pool scene with Jon and his friends along with his love interest and lastly, a scene in a bedroom. The theme of the video consists of Jon B. and his love interest navigating through their tumultuous relationship and finding their way back one another in the end. Tupac does not make any physical appearance in the video.
