In October 1902 it was announced he would vacate his command in Shanghai as the British reduced their forces in China,[5] and he returned home where he was received by King Edward VII and invested with the KCB at Buckingham Palace on 24 October 1902.[6] He was subsequently appointed General Officer Commanding the Troops in the Straits Settlements with the rank of brigadier-general,[7] taking up this post in 1903.[8] Two years later he was appointed Major-General in charge of Administration in South Africa in 1905.[1] He served in World War I as Inspector of Hutting at the War Office.[1] He died in Palma, Majorca.[9] References1. ^1 2 Sir Arthur Robert Ford Dorward Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives {{DEFAULTSORT:Dorward, Arthur}}2. ^[https://books.google.com/books?id=Y8AKI2nqPBQC&pg=PA121&lpg=PA121&dq=Sir+Arthur+Robert+Ford+Dorward&source=bl&ots=JSwbb54Y_8&sig=tP--T1Ui7vW7h3hakPySVUzDXIE&hl=en&ei=HzNxTt6GMsqz8QOioMmRCg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBsQ6AEwADgK#v=onepage&q=Sir%20Arthur%20Robert%20Ford%20Dorward&f=false Dictionary of Indian Biography, p.121] 3. ^{{London Gazette |issue=27337 |date=24 July 1901 |page=4915 |supp=y}} 4. ^{{London Gazette |issue=27352 |date=6 September 1901 |page=5875}} 5. ^{{Cite newspaper The Times |articlename=Naval & Military intelligence - The British Forces in China |day_of_week=Tuesday |date=7 October 1902 |page_number=8 |issue=36892| }} 6. ^{{Cite newspaper The Times |articlename=Court Circular |day_of_week=Saturday |date=25 October 1902 |page_number=8 |issue=36908| }} 7. ^{{Cite newspaper The Times |articlename=Naval & Military intelligence |day_of_week=Friday |date=3 October 1902 |page_number=8 |issue=36889| }} 8. ^Army Commands {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150705211343/http://www.gulabin.com/armynavy/pdf/Army%20Commands%201900-2011.pdf |date=5 July 2015 }} 9. ^Major-General Sir Arthur Dorward, former GOC Straits The Straits Times, 27 March 1934 6 : 1848 births|1934 deaths|British Army generals of World War I|Knights Commander of the Order of the Bath|Companions of the Distinguished Service Order|Royal Engineers officers |
