Bala Ganapathi William is a Malaysian actor, anchor and producer of Indian origin in Malaysian Tamil Cinema / Malaysian Indian Cinema.^[1] He is also known by his initials BGW. He is the founder and CEO of BGW STUDIOS, a Film and TV Production company in Malaysia.

Early life and education

Bala Ganapathi William^[2] was born to a Malaysian Indian family in Sungai Petani, Kedah. He finished his primary education at SJK (T) Saraswathy, a Tamil school in Sungai Petani, Kedah. He completed his secondary education at SMK Bandar Sungai Petani in 2007. After completing his secondary education, he was selected for an intercultural student exchange program under AFS Intercultural Programs from 2008 until 2009 at Japan. In 2009, he joined AIMST University in Kedah and finished his pre-engineering/foundation in engineering course. In 2010, he was studying for bachelor's in Honors Mechatronic Engineering at UCSI University, but somehow failed to complete the course.

Movie

2017 is the year BGW started to venture into Direction actively. Bala Ganapathi William's first feature film as debut and solo hero is NEEYUM NAANUM.^[3][4][5] This movie is directed by BGW himself under BGW Studios in association with HK Network. Jasmin Michael is the main female lead in the movie. Together with them other prominent actors such as KK.Khanna, Kavitha Thiagarajan, Arun Kumaran, Kaamesha Ravindran and many others. Music is composed by Varmman Elangkovan. He also started to direct couple of music videos such as Kaadhal Embathu Saabama, Yehnulle, Nanba Vaa & Pen Azha Vendam.

Songs

Bala Ganapathi William made his debut as a singer in his first single song title KAADHAL ENBATHU SAABAMA.^[8][9][10] The music was composed by Lawrence Soosai. The cast of the music video is Bala Ganapathi William, Subashini Asokan, Mugen Rao & Srithika Sri. The song lyrics was penned by rapper Sheezay & Santesh. The song was in Malaysian Top 10 Hits chart more than 10 weeks and also it was a Number 1 song in the chart continuously for 7 weeks in THR Raaga.

Television

As for 2017, BGW have worked more than 300 episodes of TV program and TV series locally and internationally. Bala Ganapathi William appeared for the first time on television on 2009 in a program titled 'Alaram 2' on ASTRO Vaanavil, at the age of 19. He made his debut as a host, TV anchor in a dance competition titled Yuttha Medai which was previously known as Aattam 100 Vagai in ASTRO Vaanavil in November 2012. He made his debut in acting in a TV Drama titled 'Vazhkai Valvatharke' which was aired on ASTRO Vaanavil in 2012. 'Alarum Pookkal', also knowns as '3 Doctors' drama which was aired in RTM TV2 channel in 2013 was first drama BGW was acting as a hero (main lead).

His program Rasikka Rusikka was a big hit among all in 2014, ASTRO Vinmeen HD. Rasikka Rusikka is a street food program whereby Bala Ganapathi William travels on a bike and tastes all the best street foods throughout Malaysia. In 2015, once again Bala Ganapathi William was the anchor for Rasikka Rusikka Season 2. The Season 2 of Rasikka Rusikka program was on air in Malaysia & Singapore TV channels simultaneously. In 2017, Rasikka Rusikka program made come back in Season 3 after a year gap. During this season, Bala Ganapathi William travels on a Ford Ranger 4 wheel drive in Peninsular Malaysia the search the best local foods. The season 3 of this program received a very good response and feedbacks from viewers. BGW made a comeback again in Rasikka Rusikka Season 4, and this he travels not just in Malaysia, he crossed the borders to Thailand and Singapore.

In 2014, BGW acted in Singapore Tamil TV series for the first time. The series titled Annamalai was aired on Mediacorp Vasantham TV channel. BGW acted in Season 1 in a minor role, and later in Season 2 as one of the main lead pairing together with popular TV host in Singapore Nithya Rao. Bala Ganapathi William also worked as Assistant Director & Casting Director in all the 3 Seasons of the popular Singapore TV series Annamalai.

Award

1) In 2017, Bala Ganapathi William received Best Host/Announcer Award for 2016 & 2017 by 'Malaysian MGR Youth Association' & ‘Persatuan Peminat ASTRO Vaanavil Negeri Kedah'. The award was presented to him by popular actor cum director from India, K. Bhagyaraj sir. The ceremony took place at SP Inn Hotel, Sungai Petani Kedah on 29 July 2017.

2) On 29 December 2017, Bala Ganapathi William received Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan Award as Most Promosing Artist of the Year 2017. This award was presented to him by Sivaji Ganesan Cultural Society, Malaysia.

3) On 31st January 2019, Bala Ganapathi William received Cinefest Malaysia Award as a Best Debut Director for his movie titled Neeyum Naanum.
