Government

Presidential elections

Pawnee County has been primarily Republican for the majority of its history. However, there have been multiple stretches where it was considered a swing county, backing the national winner in all presidential elections from 1904 to 1936 as well as 1964 to 1988. It has trended away from bellwether status since 1988 however, with its most recent presidential result in 2016 giving Donald Trump a near 50 point margin of victory over Hillary Clinton.
