Barron, who became President and Editor. Barron teamed with William L. Doneghy, who acted as Vice-President and Controller.[2][4] In 1971, Bryant Gumbel became editor of the magazine, leaving the following year.[5][6][7] The magazine failed in the 1970s,[3] and ceased publication in 1978.[8] References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/boston/access/1933311012.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:AI&type=historic&date=Mar+18%2C+1971&author=&pub=Boston+Globe+%281960-1979%29&desc=Black+Sports%3A+new+magazine+in+town&pqatl=google|title=Black Sports: new magazine in town|work=Boston Globe|date=March 18, 1971 |accessdate=March 2, 2013}} 2. ^1 {{cite news|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=lb9QAAAAIBAJ&sjid=4V8DAAAAIBAJ&pg=3927,2568998&dq=black-sports-magazine&hl=en|title=Black ... not so beautiful on paper|work=St. Petersburg Times|accessdate=March 2, 2013}} 3. ^1 {{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=wswDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA133&lpg=PA133&dq=%22black+sports+magazine%22&source=bl&ots=IJDxMXZscd&sig=seZUNg1KtRpODSBmgA-HigXlA7A&hl=en&sa=X&ei=GNMxUeneM5Dp0QHHrIGwDg&ved=0CJABEOgBMBE#v=onepage&q=%22black%20sports%20magazine%22&f=false |title=Future in Sports |publisher= Ebony|accessdate=March 2, 2013}} 4. ^{{cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=NEMDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA48&lpg=PA48&dq=%22black+sports+magazine%22&source=bl&ots=sogm7h08EU&sig=yKehsTJy8om-wpz_t2NETfil9eI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=GNMxUeneM5Dp0QHHrIGwDg&ved=0CKgBEOgBMBg#v=onepage&q=%22black%20sports%20magazine%22&f=false|title=Black Sports Hall of Fame planned in N.Y.|publisher= Jet|date=July 19, 1973|accessdate=March 2, 2013}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.blackpast.org/?q=aah/gumbel-bryant-1948|title=Gumbel, Bryant (1948– ) | The Black Past: Remembered and Reclaimed|work=The Black Past|accessdate=March 2, 2013}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/person/78078|title=Overview for Bryant Gumbel|work=TCM|accessdate=March 2, 2013}}{{dead link|date=July 2017 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 7. ^{{cite web|author=Joseph Fitzhenry|url=http://www.maristmy575.com/?p=8882|title=Bryant Gumbel speaks his mind to students and faculty|work=Maristmy575|date=December 5, 2012|accessdate=March 2, 2013}} 8. ^1 {{cite book|author=David K.
