Booneville High School is a comprehensive public secondary school located in Booneville, Arkansas, United States, for students in grades nine through twelve. Booneville is one of four public high schools in Logan County and the only high school administered by the Booneville School District.

Academics

Curriculum

The assumed course of study for students is to complete the Smart Core curriculum developed by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), which requires students complete at least 22 units for graduation. Course offerings include regular and advanced placement classes and exams with opportunities for college credit via AP exam or via concurrent credit at University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and Arkansas Tech University. The school is accredited by the ADE.

Fine arts

Students may participate in various musical and performing arts including art club, band (e.g., concert band, jazz band), choir, and theater.

Honor societies

Honor society organizations include mathematics (Mu Alpha Theta), science (Science National Honor Society), vocal and instrumental music (Tri-M Music Honor Society), journalism (Quill and Scroll Society), drama (International Thespian Society) and Spanish, in addition to National Honor Society and National Beta Club.

Extracurricular activities

The Booneville High School mascot is the Bearcat with the school colors of purple and old gold.

Athletics

For the 2012–14 seasons,[2] the Booneville Bearcats participate in the 4A Region 4 Conference. Competition is primarily sanctioned by the Arkansas Activities Association with students competing in American football, volleyball, baseball, basketball (boys and girls), competitive cheer, golf (boys and girls), softball, tennis (boys and girls), track and field (boys and girls).[3]

The 4A Region 4 Conference members include Booneville Bearcats, Dardanelle Sand Lizards, Dover Pirates, Maumelle Hornets, Mena Bearcats, Pottsville Apaches, Subiaco Trojans and Waldron Bulldogs.

For the 2014-16 cycle, Booneville competed in 3A Region 4. Other members of this conference are Charleston, Danville, Lamar, Lavaca, Mansfield, Paris and Two Rivers high schools in American football. In basketball and all other major sports except volleyball, Lavaca and Mansfield, who compete in 3A Region 1 West for these sports, are replaced by Atkins. In volleyball, the Lady Cats compete in the 3A West Conference along with Lavaca, Mansfield, Mulberry, Paris, Union Christian and West Fork.

Booneville returned to Class 4A for the 2016-18 cycle.

American football

The Booneville Bearcats American football teams plays on Friday nights each fall. The Bearcats are three-time state football champions winning titles in 1986, 2000 and 2013.

Other sports

Booneville has also won state championships in baseball (2001), softball (2004), weightlifting (2013, 2014 (4A), 2015(3A)), trapshooting (2015), girls' golf (2015), competitive cheer (2015) and tennis. Booneville athletes have also won several individual event state championships in track and field.{{cn|date=April 2017}}

Clubs and traditions

Booneville students participate in a variety of leadership, business, affinity groups and career-centric pursuits ranging from membership, activities, events and conferences supported by Art Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Library Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions and the aforementioned honor societies.

Other

The school achieved a brief stint of internet fame in February, 2018, after a video of a fight, allegedly involving students from Booneville, went viral on social media. [4] It was later revealed that the circumstances behind the video were blown out of proportion by numerous fake news outlets: the two individuals involved were cousins and had later reconciled.[5]
