It is to be released on 13 September 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Gameplay{{main|Borderlands (series)#Gameplay|l1=Gameplay of the Borderlands series}}Borderlands 3 is a loot-driven first-person shooter. Players make a character from one of four classes available, and take on various missions given out by non-playable characters (NPCs) and at bounty bounds to gain experience, in-game monetary rewards, and reward items. Players can also gain these items by defeating enemies throughout the game. As the player gains level, they can start to allocate points across a skill tree, including unlocking one unique skill for that character. As with previous Borderlands games, the game features a loot system where guns and other equipment the player can equip through a procedural generation system that affects the damage, range, ammo capacity, and other special perks, with the gameplay trailer claiming that over one billion guns will be available to players. The game can be played as a single-player game, or with local or multiplayer co-operative modes. In previous Borderlands games, loot generated from looting chests or killing enemies was available for any player to take. Borderlands 3 leaves this as an option, or otherwise the players can select to have loot generated per-player, so that only that player can pick their rewards.[2] Players will be able to choose from four new characters: Amara, a muscular "Siren" who summons ethereal fists; Moze, a young "Gunner" who rides the mecha Iron Bear; Zane, an "Operative" with a variety of gadgets; and FL4K, a robot "Beastmaster" who summons creatures to aid in fights. The principal antagonists are two cult leaders, the "Calypso twins", who are trying to unite the various bandit clans in their efforts to find a weapon capable of destroying the universe.[3] Coverage of the trailers indicated the return of many characters from previous Borderlands games including the spin-off game Tales from the Borderlands. [4][5][5] DevelopmentThe game was announced with a trailer at PAX East on 28 March 2019.[6] The trailer received mixed reviews by video game websites, some of which characterized it as too similar in appearance and content to previous entries in the series.[7][8] The game is slated for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and through the Epic Games Store for Microsoft Windows, which will have exclusive Windows distribution rights until 2020.[9][10] Fan dissatisfaction with this exclusivity arrangement led to a review bombing of the Borderlands games on Steam.[11] Four different versions of the game will be released, with various add-ons, at different price points, including physical bonuses.[9] References1. ^{{cite news |last1=Yin-Poole |first1=Wesley |title=Jesus Christ, look at the Borderlands 3 box art |url=https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-04-03-jesus-christ-look-at-the-borderlands-3-box-art |accessdate=3 April 2019 |work=Eurogamer |date=3 April 2019 |language=en}} 2. ^{{cite web | url = https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/04/03/borderlands-3-hits-ps4-september-13-watch-the-new-gameplay-trailer/ | title = Borderlands 3 Hits PS4 September 13, Watch the New Gameplay Trailer | first = Scott | last = Kester | date = April 3, 2019 | accessdate = April 3, 2019 | work = PlayStation Blog }} 3. ^{{cite web | url = https://variety.com/2019/gaming/news/borderlands-3-season-pass-characters-epic-store-release-detailed-1203179362/ | title = ‘Borderlands 3’ Season Pass, Characters, Epic Store Release Detailed | first = Brian | last= Crecente | date = 3 April 2019 | accessdate = 3 April 2019 | work = Variety }} 4. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/28/18284249/borderlands-3-announcement-trailer-gearbox-release-date|title=Borderlands 3 announced: watch the first trailer|last1=McWhertor|first1=Michael|date=28 March 2019|work=Polygon|accessdate=28 March 2019}} 5. ^1 {{cite web|work=PC Gamer|date=28 March 2019|url=https://www.pcgamer.com/borderlands-3-everything-we-know/|last1=Petitte|first1=Omri|last2=Wilde|first2=Tyler|last3=Brown|first3=Fraser|title=Borderlands 3: Everything we know so far}} 6. ^{{cite news |last1=Delahunty-Light |first1=Zoe |title=The Borderlands 3 trailer is here and it’s everything you wanted |url=https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/borderlands-3-trailer/ |accessdate=28 March 2019 |work=Gamesradar+ |language=en}} 7. ^{{cite web|work=Gamespot|last1=Seipke|first1=Jean-Luc|last2=Ramee|first2=Jordan|date=29 March 2019|url=https://www.gamespot.com/videos/borderlands-3s-debut-trailer-didnt-impress-us-as-m/2300-6448973/|title=Borderlands 3's Debut Trailer Didn't Impress Us As Much As We Hoped}} 8. ^{{cite web|work=Polygon|url=https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/28/18285523/borderlands-3-trailer-reaction|date=28 March 2019|title=Borderlands 3’s trailer is a disappointment|last=Kuchera|first=Ben}} 9. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://www.polygon.com/2019/4/3/18293258/borderlands-3-release-date-trailer-epic-store-exclusive|title=Borderlands 3 coming Sept. 13, exclusive to Epic Games Store on PC|last=McWhertor|first=Michael|date=3 April 2019|website=Polygon|access-date=3 April 2019}} 10. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/3/18293453/borderlands-3-release-date-trailer-xbox-ps4-pc-epic-store|title=Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Store on PC|last=Webster|first=Andrew|date=3 April 2019|website=The Verge|access-date=3 April 2019}} 11. ^{{cite news |last1=Walker |first1=Alex |title=Naturally, The Borderlands Franchise Is Getting Review Bombed |url=https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/04/borderlands-borderlands-2-borderlands-3-review-bomb-gearbox-2k/ |accessdate=4 April 2019 |work=Kotaku Australia |date=4 April 2019 |language=en}} External links
