Bournville (Mon) Halt railway station was a station which served Ty'r-Cecil near Blaina Abertillery in the Welsh county of Monmouthshire.{{sfnp|Conolly|2004|loc=p. 8, section A4}}

History

The halt was opened by the Great Western Railway in July 1897 as an untimetabled station known as Tylers Arms Platform for the use of miners.{{sfnp|Croughton|Kidner|Young|1982|p=136}}{{sfnp|Quick|2009|p=94}}{{sfnp|Butt|1995|p=236}} The name was taken from the public house situated just to the north.{{citation needed|date=December 2014}} It was on the Great Western's {{convert|6|mi|abbr=off|adj=on}} branch from {{rws|Aberbeeg}} to {{rws|Nantyglo}} which had first opened as a tramroad in 1824 by the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company before being converted to a railway in 1855.{{sfnp|Page|1988|pp=141-142}} It became part of the Great Western Railway in 1880{{sfnp|Awdry|1990|p=36}} and remained there at the Grouping of 1923.{{sfnp|Awdry|1990|p=13}}

The station was situated to the east of South Griffith Colliery and just to the west of a Baptist Chapel; it is known to have been in use by miners on 3 June 1915.{{sfnp|Mitchell|Smith|2006|loc=fig. XXV}} The colliery was served by a series of sidings which were in use between {{circa|1885}} and {{circa|1937}}.{{sfnp|Mitchell|Smith|2006|loc=fig. XXV}} The single-platform halt, which was {{convert|1.5|mi|km}} from {{rws|Abertillery}}, backed on to houses in Bournville Road.{{sfnp|Mitchell|Smith|2006|loc=fig. 78}} It was opened to the public and renamed Bournville (Mon) on 30 October 1933, with the suffix halt being added by 5 October 1942.{{sfnp|Quick|2009|p=94}}{{sfnp|Butt|1995|p=40}} Passenger services were withdrawn from the station on 30 April 1962.{{sfnp|Clinker|1988|p=16}}{{sfnp|Butt|1995|p=40}}{{sfnp|Quick|2009|p=94}}{{sfnp|Hall|2009|p=52}} The line through the station was singled in 1964.{{sfnp|Mitchell|Smith|2006|loc=fig. 79}} Official closure of the section between Blaina and Rose Heyworth Colliery including Bournville came on 5 July 1976.{{sfnp|Hurst|1991|loc=p. 69, note 3054}}
