{{one source|date=August 2015}}[https://www.researchgate.net/publication/262640201_Brain_Emotional_Learning-Inspired_Models Brain Emotional Learning-inspired Models] or BELiMs can be considered as a primary step to take inspiration from emotional systems to form new computational Intelligence (CI) models. BELIMs have been inspired by fear conditioning that is one of the emotional systems in mammalians and is a mechanism by which a biological system learns how to predict aversive events.[1]

The hypothesis behind the development of BELiMs is that "the neural structure of fear conditioning can be considered as a natural system that consists of some components (e.g., the amygdala, thalamus, and the sensory cortex) and whose functionality is fulfilled through interaction among its components. Fear conditioning as a system shows an intelligent behavior by learning how to respond to fear-induced stimuli and thus can be utilized to design new CI models for prediction and decision-making applications" [2]
