It is endemic to Montagne des Français, Madagascar, and is an endangered species due to the decline of its habitat.[1] It was named after the French word "triste" meaning sad to provoke thought regarding the threatened habitat of Madagascar's micro-endemic species. B. Triste was first found in an isolated patch of forest near an expanding city in 2012 by a research team led by Dr. Frank Glaw from the Zoologische Staatssammlung München.[2] References1. ^1 {{Cite journal | author = Jenkins, R.K.B. | author2 = Glaw, F. | last-author-amp = yes | title = Brookesia tristis | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2014 | page = e.T42687277A47583890 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2014 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/42687277/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2014-3.RLTS.T42687277A47583890.en | access-date = 9 January 2018}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q1188477}}{{chameleon-stub}}2. ^http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/17028940 5 : Brookesia|Endangered fauna of Africa|Endemic fauna of Madagascar|Reptiles of Madagascar|Reptiles described in 2012 |
