Brora Y Station was a Government listening station located South-east of Brora in Sutherland which operated between 1940 and 1986. HistoryThe building was built for the General Post Office and completed by 1939.[1] During the Second World War it operated as a Y-station collecting information for analysts at Bletchley Park.[1] Unlike other Y stations Brora did not close after the War but continued as a Cold War monitoring station under the aegis of Government Communications Headquarters until it closed in 1986.[2] References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/276040/contribution/brora+radio+intercept+y+station+operations+building/FNL6094608358/|title=Brora Radio Intercept Y Station Operations Building|publisher=Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland|accessdate=13 December 2014}} {{coord|58.00700|N|3.84845|W|region:GB-BKM_type:landmark|display=title}}2. ^{{cite web|url=https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=2jCbW82ABTkC&pg=PA8&lpg=PA8&dq=GCHQ+Stations&source=bl&ots=BiIkh-v7rC&sig=TKuq603T4gLUgQMs9lKtInvi7_Q&hl=en&sa=X&ei=rnCLVIrsFo_laMmbgrgD&ved=0CFMQ6AEwCDgK#v=onepage&q=GCHQ%20Stations&f=false|title=How Cheltenham entered America's backyard|publisher=New Scientist|date=5 April 1984|accessdate=12 December 2014}} 3 : Buildings and structures in Sutherland|Government Communications Headquarters buildings and structures|Brora |
