Ramanaa was appointed Minister for Handlooms and in November 2011 a cabinet reshuffle by Jayalalithaa resulted in him replacing T. K. M. Chinnayya as Minister for the Environment, with S. Sundararaj taking over the Handlooms portfolio.^[2] He was Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration, Government of Tamil Nadu. He became Minister for Milk and Dairy Development in 2014.^[3]^[4]

The elections of 2016 resulted in his constituency being won by V. G. Raajendran.^[5]
