The lighthouse is situated approximately {{convert|12|km}} southwest of {{TAScity|Strahan}}. Constructed [3] and first lit in 1899,[4][5] the {{convert|40|m|ft|adj=mid|-high}} lighthouse is the only structure remaining from a brick complex of tower, three houses and engine room, except for the foundation remnants of the three keepers' residences.[2] The light characteristic is a group of two flashes that occurs every fifteen seconds, its focal plane is at {{convert|51|m}} above sea level with a white light intensity of 208,000 candlepower, visible for {{convert|32|km}} and the red, of 83,000 candlepower, visible for {{convert|19|km}}.[2] Initially fed by vapourised kerosene, the station was automated in 1971[6] and in 1998, the light was converted to solar power.[7] Further automation occurred in 2012 [8] See also{{stack|{{portal|Tasmania|lighthouses}}}}
