It is found in the undergrowth of humid forest, especially near edges, at altitudes of {{convert|300|to|1200|m|ft}} in the Venezuelan Coastal Range. TaxonomyThe Caracas brush finch was often treated as a subspecies of the stripe-headed brush finch (A. torquatus), but was determined a distinct species on the basis of differences in vocalization, plumage, and genetics.[2] SACC split the group in 2010.
