Acclaimed film director David Lean also once stayed on the hotel.[7]Author Rosamunde Pilcher features the hotel (renamed as The Sands Hotel) in her novels The Shell Seekers (1988) and Winter Solstice (2000).[8] Architecture and facilitiesThe hotel is a traditional cream painted building, three storeys high with two large bays at either side. It has six chimney stacks, two on top of either bay and two in the middle. It has several extensions and an extensive conservatory at the front, overlooking the beach. The lawn is kept closely cropped, leading down to the beach. The hotel has two restaurants. The fine-dining Sand's Restaurant has an AA Rosette and serves Cornish cuisine and fresh seafood.[9] The Beach Club restaurant, located on the beach, serves a range of Mediterranean dishes.[10] The hotel and beach is regularly used for weddings with 11 areas of the estate licensed for wedding ceremonies, including the Beach Club restaurant, decking on the beach, conservatory with panoramic sea views and the C Bay Spa.[9] References1. ^http://www.theaa.com/hotels/st-ives-carbis-bay-hotel-380891 2. ^{{cite book|title=The Garden|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=AF9MAAAAYAAJ|accessdate=26 March 2011|year=2003|publisher=Royal Horticultural Society.|page=230}} 3. ^{{cite book|last=Dillon|first=Paddy|title=The South West Coast Path|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=HnMehsCXKbUC&pg=PA112|accessdate=26 March 2011|date=September 2003|publisher=Cicerone Press Limited|isbn=978-1-85284-379-3|page=112}} 4. ^1 {{cite book|last=Long|first=Peter|title=The Hidden Places of Cornwall|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ZFDgfKK40AMC&pg=PT168|accessdate=26 March 2011|date=January 2003|publisher=Travel Publishing Ltd|isbn=978-1-902007-86-1|page=168}} 5. ^{{cite book|last=McMinnies|first=William Gordon|title=Signpost|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=3U4qAQAAIAAJ|accessdate=26 March 2011|year=1988|publisher=Signpost Ltd.|isbn=978-0-901249-18-0|page=44}} 6. ^{{cite book|last=Hill-Miller|first=Katherine|title=From the Lighthouse to Monk's House: a guide to Virginia Woolf's literary landscapes|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=6oFbAAAAMAAJ|accessdate=26 March 2011|year=2001|publisher=Duckworth|isbn=978-0-7156-2995-6}} 7. ^1 {{cite book|last=Brownlow|first=Kevin|title=David Lean: a biography|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=hn1ZAAAAMAAJ|accessdate=26 March 2011|year=1996|publisher=Richard Cohen}} 8. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/html/about-us.html |title=About Us |publisher=Carbis Bay Hotel |accessdate=26 March 2011 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20101123174723/http://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/html/about-us.html |archivedate=23 November 2010 |df= }} 9. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.activehotels.com/wl/servlet/xmlbrochure/index.do?hotelid=225831&trkref=EI6|title=Carbis Bay Hotel|publisher=Active Hotels|accessdate=26 March 2011~}} 10. ^http://www.carbisbayhotel.co.uk/dining/beach-club-restaurant.html External links
