She became a celebrity after making international news for being the first woman from one of the top universities of the world, to participate in the beauty pageant.[2] She remains the most successful Miss England contestant ever, having won four of the ten qualifying rounds in the final of the competition, including the swimwear round.[3] Tyrrell studied medicine at Murray Edwards College[4] at the Cambridge University and received a first class degree, prizes and distinctions.[5] Having declared herself a feminist, Tyrrell faced criticism from Germaine Greer, herself a Cambridge University graduate[6].
