Beginning in 1941, it served for decades as the headquarters of the financial firm Axe-Houghton Management.[5] New owners Hanspeter and Steffi Walder of Tarrtown bought the property along with a group of investors in 1992. Their vision was to re-create Carrollcliff's glory days. The couple's vision was to convert the Castle into a luxury inn while rediscovering, and ultimately preserving the Castle's original beauty and charm. Their goal, Hanspeter says, is the operation of a hotel and restaurant that can be a haven for the stressed executive or professional desiring to relax in a setting that is warm, inviting, and majestic.[6] In 2003, Elite Hotels, a limited liability company formed by C. Dean Metropoulos, bought the property, then called The Castle at Tarrytown for $10.9 million, according to a newspaper article at the time, which described it as "a 31-room inn on 10.1 acres". [7] It is now a hotel[8] and spa. {{Coord|41.067|N|73.849|W|display=title}}References1. ^{{cite book|author=Historical Society of Tarrytown|title=Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=FiE-XNBzoQEC&pg=PA50|year=1997|publisher=Arcadia Publishing|isbn=978-0-7524-0881-1|pages=50–}} 2. ^{{cite book|author=Lisa Marie Rovito|title=Frommer's Great Escapes From NYC Without Wheels|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=9zCr40ge9_0C&pg=PA55|date=14 August 2006|publisher=John Wiley & Sons|isbn=978-0-470-04454-4|pages=55–}} 3. ^{{cite book|author1=Historical Society, Inc.|author2=Historical Society Inc|title=Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=-OJHb-AxGKkC&pg=PA88|date=1 October 1997|publisher=Arcadia Publishing|isbn=978-0-7385-5780-9|pages=88–}} 4. ^{{cite book|last=Adams|first=Arthur G.|title=The Hudson River Guidebook|year=1996|publisher=Fordham Univ Press|location=New York, NY, USA|isbn=0823216802|page=135}} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Singer|first=Penny|title=The View from Axe Castle: Optimistic|url=https://www.nytimes.com/1987/11/08/nyregion/the-view-from-axe-castle-optimistic.html|accessdate=30 November 2013|newspaper=The New York Times|date=8 November 1987}} 6. ^{{connecticut post|last1=Boros|first1=Phyllis|title=IN BUSINESS; Spend the Night in the Castle of your Dreams?,|url=https://www.ctpost.com/}} 7. ^{{cite news|last1=Brenner|first1=Elsa|title=IN BUSINESS; Going Price for Castles?
