Underwood has expressed interest in filming an adaptation of Casanegra with himself potentially starring as the character of Tennyson Hardwick.[4] SynopsisTennyson "Ten" Hardwick is an actor trying to make it big in Hollywood, which is made difficult by his past as a gigolo that sold his body to anyone willing to pay the right price. This past has caused a distance between Tennyson and his family, especially his LAPD captain of a father. However overcoming his past proves to be harder than he imagined after Tennyson finds himself the prime suspect for the murder of Afrodite, a rapper and former client of his. DevelopmentUnderwood came up with the book's concept after working on a project with Diana Ross that would have had the two acting as a client and her gigolo.[5] The project never came to fruition, but Underwood continued to work on the concept until he approached Due with the idea of writing a novel based upon a gigolo.[5] The first draft of Casanegra was written by Due and subsequent drafts were co-written with Underwood and Barnes.[5] The team drew on Walter Mosley and Zane for some of the book's influences and included several recognizable Hollywood features such as the restaurant chain Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles and the African-American owned bookstore Eso Won Books.[6] ReceptionCritical reception was mostly positive.[7] Entertainment Weekly and Publishers Weekly both gave mostly positive reviews for Casanegra, with Publishers Weekly praising the book as a "seamlessly entertaining novel".[8][9] References1. ^{{cite news|title=Inside "Casanegra"|url=https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11658408|accessdate=6 October 2013|newspaper=NPR|date=July 2, 2007}} 2. ^{{cite news|title=Actor Blair Underwood takes on the literary world|url=http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=BH&s_site=bradenton&p_multi=BH&p_theme=realcities&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=11E11AB46AD71A20&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM|accessdate=6 October 2013|newspaper=Bradenton Herald|date=August 26, 2007}} 3. ^{{cite news|last = Waldron|first = Clarence|title = Blair Underwood Makes His Breaks In Hollywood With Mystery Novel, 'Casanegra'|url = http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/articles/26072375/blair-underwood-makes-his-breaks-hollywood-mystery-novel-casanegra|accessdate = 6 October 2013|newspaper = Jet|date = August 6, 2007}} 4. ^{{cite web |title=Blair Underwood To Turn Detective Novels Into New Movie Franchise |url=http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/07/16/blair_underwood_to_turn_detective_novels |archive-url=https://archive.is/20131006112921/http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/07/16/blair_underwood_to_turn_detective_novels |dead-url=yes |archive-date=6 October 2013 |publisher=StarPulse |accessdate=6 October 2013 |df= }} 5. ^1 2 {{cite news|last=Donahue|first=Deirdre|title=Underwood in role of author|url=http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2007-06-27-underwood_N.htm|accessdate=6 October 2013|newspaper=USA Today|date=2007-06-28}} 6. ^{{cite news|last=Braxton|first=Greg|title=Under covers|url=http://articles.latimes.com/2007/aug/14/entertainment/et-underwood14|accessdate=6 October 2013|newspaper=LA Times|date=August 14, 2007}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=Washington Is Also Reading|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/26/AR2007072602041.html|accessdate=6 October 2013|newspaper=Washington Post|date=July 29, 2007}} 8. ^{{cite web|title=Review: Casanegra: A Tennyson Hardwick Story|url=http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-7432-8731-9|publisher=Publishers Weekly|accessdate=6 October 2013}} 9. ^{{cite web|last=Day|first=Adrienne|title=Review: Casanegra|url=http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20042686,00.html|publisher=Entertainment Weekly|accessdate=6 October 2013}} External links
