HistoryThe project was designed to become a continually evolving musical entity, combining the frigid and cold musical framework of the rawest black metal with a post-rock/ambient sound and aesthetic. Stylistically drawing from influences as disparate as black and death metal, drone, dream pop/shoegaze, neofolk and post-rock, each Caïna release is designed to be a distinct entity with its own palette and mood. Amongst the project's lyrical themes are English myths and legends, its literature, the repudiation of religion and the exultation of the individual. The name "Caïna" refers an eternally frozen lake in Dante's Inferno (14th century); a bottomless fissure filled with blackened ice, reverberating with the lament of innumerable damned souls, from which there is no escape.
