The CIOS manages many German fortifications and archives on both islands. Jersey branchThe Jersey branch was set up in 1971. In 2010 it was converted into a limited liability company.[3] Sites open to the public:[4]
Guernsey BranchFounded in 1961, by Richard Heaume, M.B.E.,in Guernsey, the society still researches all aspects of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands. It has an archive of historical documents, and also renovated the former German naval Signals H.Q, which was responsible for all messages to the islands from France and then Germany after D Day. The Guernsey branch is a member of the Association of Guernsey Charities, and donates money every year to The British Red Cross, in recognition of the help given to islands by the International Red Cross in 1944 and 1945, with supplies of food to the local population. Guernsey CIOS works with Festung Guernsey and private owners as regards sites open to the public in Guernsey:[7]
