Pillai or Pillay is a surname found among the Malayalam and Tamil-speaking people of India and Sri Lanka, and among their diaspora.

Origin

The term Pillai literaly means "child" in the Tamil language.[1] The title occur both as a single name or as a suffix to the name. The title is used by different castes such as the Agamudayars, Devadasis, Karaiyars, Konars, Kuravars, Nairs and Vellalars.[2][3][4]
