He was the son of the Napoleonic general Victor Frédéric Chassériau and the father of three children, including the art collector Arthur Chassériau. His other relatives included the painter Théodore Chassériau, whose 1846 portrait of Charles Frédéric's wife Joséphine is now in the Art Institute of Chicago.[1] Drawings in museums
