Combe was raised at Cobham Park. He was educated at Eton. Afterwards he travelled for three years, visiting many countries of the world. He served for three years in the Sussex Militia.[1] Political careerIn February 1892, Combe was selected by the Conservative Association for North-West Surrey to be candidate for the by-election to replace Frederick Alers Hankey, who had died that month.[2] Combe won the by-election with 4,589 votes. The other candidate (L. J. Baker) received 2,751 votes.[1] Combe was re-elected unopposed in the general elections of 1892 and 1895.[3] He resigned two years later, because of his ill-health.[4] Many years later, in 1929, Combe returned in the public eye when he was appointed as High Sheriff of Surrey.[5] BreweryHe was the director of the brewery firm Combe & Co.[1] In 1898 the company merged with James Watney & Co. and Reid and Co., and was subsequently known as Watney Combe & Reid.[6] The amalgamated company was the largest brewer in London.[6] Combe died in August 1935 at the age of 72.[7] References1. ^1 2 {{cite news |title=Election News -The Polling in Chertsey|work=Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligencer |date=5 March 1892|accessdate=29 June 2014 |url=http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000687/18920305/129/0008| publisher = British Newspaper Archive|subscription=yes}} 2. ^{{cite news |title=Mr. Chamberlain intends to... |work=Hastings and St Leonards Observer |date=27 February 1892 |accessdate=29 June 2014 |url=http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000293/18920227/075/0010| publisher = British Newspaper Archive|subscription=yes}} 3. ^{{cite news |title=Chertsey Election |work=Edinburgh Evening News |date=19 February 1897 |accessdate=5 July 2014 |url=http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000452/18970219/029/0003| publisher = British Newspaper Archive|subscription=yes}} 4. ^{{cite news |title=Chertsey Election |work=London Standard |date=19 February 1897 |accessdate=5 July 2014 |url=http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000183/18970219/011/0003| publisher = British Newspaper Archive|subscription=yes}} 5. ^{{London Gazette|issue=33479|page=1966|date=22 March 1929}} 6. ^1 {{cite book|author=P.L.
