释义 |
The Charlestown Ropewalk is a former ropewalk facility located in Charlestown, Massachusetts at the former Boston Navy Yard. At over {{convert|1300|ft}} long, it is the only standing ropewalk facility still existent in the United States. It is a pending Boston Landmark. The ropewalk building was constructed between 1834 and 1838. It was designed by Alexander Parris, who also designed much of the rest of the Charlestown Navy Yard, and other landmarks throughout Massachusetts. From its opening in 1838 until its closing in 1970, it made most of the cordage used by the United States Navy.[1] When the Navy Yard was closed in 1973, the building was acquired by the Boston Redevelopment Authority. Since its closure in the 1970s, the building has mostly sat empty. In recent years, developers have made plans to turn the ropewalk into apartments.[2] As of December 2018, plans have been approved, but no construction has started.[3] References1. ^https://www.loc.gov/item/ma1405/ Library of Congress 2. ^{{cite web |last1=Chesto |first1=Jon |title=New life planned for old Charlestown rope factory |url=https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2016/05/19/charlestown-historic-ropewalk-building-finally-ready-for-its-rebirth/hWci5nyR7BKpT4WOhPP4DM/story.html |website=bostonglobe.com |publisher=The Boston Globe |accessdate=13 December 2018}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=Ropewalk Complex - Project Description |url=http://www.bostonplans.org/projects/development-projects/ropewalk-complex |website=bostonplans.com |publisher=Boston Planning and Development Agency |accessdate=13 December 2018}} External links
