Chloramphenicol (Cm) is a metabolite produced by this bacterium that can inhibit ribosomal peptidyl transferase activity and therefore protein production. By transferring a phosphate group to the C-3 hydroxyl group of Cm, CPT inactivates this potentially lethal metabolite.[1][2] References1. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Izard T | title = Structural basis for chloramphenicol tolerance in Streptomyces venezuelae by chloramphenicol phosphotransferase activity | journal = Protein Science | volume = 10 | issue = 8 | pages = 1508–13 | date = August 2001 | pmid = 11468347 | pmc = 2374082 | doi = 10.1002/pro.101508 }} {{InterPro content|IPR012853}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Chloramphenicol Phosphotransferase-Like Protein Family}}2. ^{{cite journal | vauthors = Izard T, Ellis J | title = The crystal structures of chloramphenicol phosphotransferase reveal a novel inactivation mechanism | journal = The EMBO Journal | volume = 19 | issue = 11 | pages = 2690–700 | date = June 2000 | pmid = 10835366 | pmc = 212772 | doi = 10.1093/emboj/19.11.2690 }} 1 : Protein domains |
