It was created at the Institut für Acker- und Pflanzenbau of Müncheberg,[ in Märkisch-Oderland in eastern Germany, which at that time was in the German Democratic Republic. It is a hybrid of 'Geheimrat Dr. Oldenburg' and 'Cox's Orange Pippin'.
