The correct name for the now decommissioned base was (U.S. Coast Guard COTP Gloucester City, NJ as well as U.S. Coast Guard Base Gloucester City, NJ). (COTP standing for "Captain of the Port)

The base was formed 1898 and the base was closed in 1988, the Coast Guard moved across the Delaware to Penn's Landing.

The base had 2 tug boats, one of which was the Coast Guard Cutter CLEAT[1] 1 41 foot UTB, 1 Oil Skimmer. The site also had the main building that housed Administration, berthing for some of the crew, galley, PX. There was a boat house, fire house, ANT (Aids to navigation) unit and stand alone crane for the small boats. All on 10 acres of land/pier.

The base also had 1 Buoy Tender the Red Oak. The ship was commissioned on 17 December 1971 and was assigned to Gloucester City, New Jersey and was placed under the operational control of the Third [later the Fifth] Coast Guard District.[2]
